11/16/2007 It's not a whole lot like Walden's Pond...from what I saw online, and read there also, the differences are probably more numerous than the similarities, but I think your "pond is where you find it...I'm the sort of person who can find solitude-as well as loneliness, in a crowded room. In case you have forgotten, this is Walden on Walden Pond..."I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. I did not wish to live what was not life, living is so dear; nor did I wish to practise resignation, unless it was quite necessary. I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life, to live so sturdily and Spartan- like as to put to rout all that was not life, to cut a broad swath and shave close, to drive life into a corner, and reduce it to its lowest terms, and, if it proved to be mean, why then to get the whole and genuine meanness of it, and publish its meanness to the world; or if it were sublime, to know it by experience, and be able to give a true account of it in my next excursion." Here is a link that will share most of what Walden has written about solitude, etc. if you choose to look into it..http://www.concord.org/~kathy/Walden/wldsolitude.htmland, so, even though U.S. Highway 40 is only several hundred yards away, and which will very soon be very busy with skiers, snowboarders, winter lovers, Texans, second homeowners living thier dream...I can still find a little solitude here, the pond slipping into it's icy hibernation, the trees rustling, leaveless, and Fraser River whose gurgling song is muted by a crust of snow-dusted ice...I think a big part is seizing "it" when you can, enjoying "it" while you can, being grateful for "it" if you can...(if you can't don't be surprised if it doesn't dissolve as quickly as you discovered it[anything good !!!] whatever your "it" may be...Peace
