It is most interesting to live in this “Island in the Rockies” as it has come to be known by a lot of the locals, where Mother Nature is seemingly unencumbered by the delineation of the four seasons that seems mandatory in most areas of the continental United States (and much more like Alaska than Hawaii.!!!) The first year I was here, 1n 1992, they almost had to cancel the July 4th fireworks in Grand Lake. A Canadian cold front had moved in the night before and we awoke to a furious snowstorm. The snow didn’t stick much, but continued until midafternoon. But that was enough time for them to get the barge ready (the fireworks are shot off a barge in the middle of Grand Lake) in time for the, well, fireworks!
