7/02/2005 ..and so it begins...Live 8 kicked off in Japan Saturday, with Bjork and Good Charlotte joining local bands in what is the beginning of the world-wide concert(s).http://apnews1.iwon.com/article/20050702/D8B3875O0.html Some criticizim has already arisen because of the "poor" turnout- an estimated 10,000 people-in a venue that normally holds twice that. Considering they had only about a month to orgaize it, I think it was successful simply by the virtue of it having happened at all !!! There will be shows in all G-8 countries, http://apnews1.iwon.com/article/20050702/D8B370580.html as well as in South Africa. More than a million people are expected to attend the free concerts, and 85% of the world's population will have access to the concerts on radio, television, or internet connections... oh man, there must be roomfuls of advertisement execs going crazy thinking about the money that could be made on something like this-and I won't be surprized if there will be a few that will figure out "an angle" but for all intents and purposes, and much credit to the organizers and performers participating, it's all "free"... i have to admit, for all the negativity...all of the examples of the dark side of humanity we see on a daily-even hourly-basis, this will be a very amazing "happening", one that I support, one that makes me want to get involved. I will have the house to myself alot today, and so I am commiting myself towriting letters, volunteering whatever time and recources I can. First stop, I think will be Oxfam...Well I'm of to do some recearch, I hope to "see" you at the concert !!! posted by David | 7/02/2005 06:25:00 AM
