3/19/2005 Here I go again... I'm afraid I am becoming obsessed with Iraq...becoming more and more concerned (i.e. caring) about the day-to-day occurrences there..I read several blogs radiating from Iraq, and have become an anonymous (that word should be in a spelling bee..!.) . uh...well..not quite that much anonymous, but at some level supporter of those folks...my mainline being a blog out of Mosul (in my mind..Mo'Soul)... http://mosulfamily.blogspot.com/ I first started reading Aunt Najma's blog: http://astarfrommosul.blogspot.com/ last year, and watched as she blossomed, in a bloggy sort of way, and, as she shared with folks all over the world, infected her family with the blogger bug...now we have a unique view of a family, living day-to-day in the vigarity's of a war that isn't acknowledged, ( sorry, I don't comprehend peacekeeping under these circumstances) a view of what is really going in thier part of Iraq and how it affects them... Okay... now we get to my revelation ( that's what it takes for me most times...) and that is...Saddam Hussein, argueably a tyrant and monster...did give the most intellegent a chance to make something of themselves...testing for the most intellegent continually, and elevating them... even giving women a chance prove thier strengths...and, to a certain degree, letting Iraqis take thier talent and make the most of it...to degrees... Was it to the advantage of Saddam and his desires?...most certainly... is that why he most probably did it ?...most probably yes...but there are some that benefited ( within the realms of a non-democracy) from it. I, for one, am glad to read about a family that indured the worst and enjoyed the best that Saddam had to offer... I hope in my heart that the folks that did get the advantages that Saddam doled out with one hand and arbitrarily snatched back with the other, use thier advantages to help thier fellow Iraqis rise up also... posted by David | 3/19/2005 06:05:00 AM
