I guess It's time I start to share a little about the place that I live..The town is called Tabernash-named after a very nasty Ute Indian whose tribe frequented this area for hundreds of years-and who died here after a gunfight with a sheriff's posse intent on running the Indians off for tearing down fences and damaging property in an area where these Indians held thier own Summer Olympics..horse racing!!!..
This is surely an area rich in the sort of history that gave the West the reputation of being wild and woolly...
We are nestled in the heart of the Western Rockies..Berthoud Pass is the main entrance to our valley on the east side.. a climb of over 12,000 ft.. It's interesting..there is a place on Berthoud Pass that, if you pour water with one hand it will, in theory, run to the Gulf of Mexico, and with the other hand will run to the Pacific...
I spent the afternoon one spring walking through the Fraser Valley Cemetary, and I came upon more than a few simple gravestones marked something like this: Uknown: found on Byers Peak in the spring thaw of 1892..As I have said before.. It is a simple life up here..not easy.. but simple if you keep a healthy respect for Nature.. for Nature lives freely and abounds here..and when you gamble with Nature here, you gamble with your life..High stakes even in these modern times...
